View Full Version : An Appeal Please Read!

Let's count our blessings, Honored Guests!
This is a solidly verified appeal from across the pond. I wasn't sure where to post it, so I'm putting it here and crossposting to Let's Roll as well. Dave is a "family" member to us via a a wonderful online community we've been a part of for years dedicted to British television. People there have really risen to the occasion for Dave and Su by both donating and crossposting to other forums. So, if you can do either, that would be truly wonderful.
Hi,
I am contacting you to ask a huge huge huge favour.
I've been with my partner Su for 4 years and we've been living together in our new house for 10 months. We were just starting out together. We had planned to get married this year.
Just before Christmas, Su was diagnosed with cancer in her colon. This month, she was diagnosed with advanced cancer in her liver.
Things are very serious and life-threatening.
Standard chemotherapy will simply not work on her: the cancer is too far advanced. Her only hope is a brand new treatment known as Avastin, which is not yet available on the NHS, as it is not yet approved for use. It has not even completed its trial stage.
We can only receive this treatment by paying for it privately. To enable Su to receive this treatment, we have to find £40000 by March 15th.
Our families are currently re-mortgaging their houses, raiding their bank accounts and screwing every last penny from their life-savings. Yet we are still far from the needed amount.
I have set up a fund-raising website at www.weneedyounow.com (http://www.uknova.com/redir.php?url=http://www.weneedyounow.com) to try to raise a bit more cash. All I need is people with a £1 coin and a heart.
Regards,
Dave Woodley.
Not to use this tragedy to pontificate, but I'm counting my blessings that we don't have National Health here in the States for just this reason. Countless British citizens go without vitally needed health care every year because of it.
If you donate, please remember that you are entering Pounds Sterling, not US Dollars. The conversion rate is: 1 U.S. Dollar = 0.555945 Pounds Sterling so in order to donate one pound you would have to put in roughly $1.76. Every pound counts, so please consider doing what you can, even if it's just crossposting. This is a time sensitive appeal, so getting the word out is also a valuable donation.
Many Thanks,
Nico

Of course I will crosspost this and donate. Anyone willing to work with me on this just let me know. I have a list of crossposting sites we used while running Lets Roll.

How awful for them to have to deal with this instead of focusing on their happiness.
I'll get the word out where I can as well.
Life can be cruel sometimes.

Thanks, IA! All efforts to get the word out are greatly appreciated! I just heard from Dave and he asked that we broadcast the message in as many places as we can!
Life can be cruel, but there's also the amazing kindness that we see strangers offering to strangers in times of need, and that takes the edge off the cruelty for me. For all the cruelty, there is so much more kindness, IMO!

For anyone who has crossposted, or who is going to please read this update from Dave:
My fundraising site is down. I have been the victim of a email-bombing this afternoon by a very nasty individual calling himself the "Scam Terminator". He is under the impression that I am a rip-off merchant and I have fabricated my story from start to finish.
The site is still available but not at the usual address.
Go to www.davewoodley.co.uk/weneedyounow (http://www.davewoodley.co.uk/weneedyounow)
Please inform anyone that you have told about the site. Things will look very suspicious if I have just disappeared off the face of the earth.
If you have posted the original address to any message boards, please could you revisit and post the new address.
I think he will have found out about the site at the PC Format forums so please DO NOT POST THE NEW ADDRESS THERE. Also, please do not post it into any new forums for the time being. The site will just get attacked again.
Donations are still accepted using my paypal address dave@weneedyounow.com (dave@weneedyounow.com) but emails to this address will not work.
I cannot believe after all that has achieved, one evil little **** is ruining our chances.
Love from Dave xxx

LightHeart, what a terrible story! I really have to wonder about some people! All we can do about situations like that is continue to forge ahead!
The good news this morning for Dave:
UPDATE at 13:00 GMT today - TOTAL STANDS AT £9791
WE OWE OUR FUTURE TO YOU ALL AND WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
That's a great result for the first few days! Let's keep doing what we can to get the word out, and huge thanks for anything anyone can do, all efforts are paying off!.
Most of the donations are 5 to 10 pounds, that's what's really great about it. It shows how much every small contribution can really matter!
And, this is another reason that I'd love to see our Let's Roll project become revitalized. Wouldn't it be great to have a ready made support network in place when these kinds of situations are brought to our attention?
I so believe in grassroots action. People working together, donating what we can in the way of time, creativity, caring, and even cash can make such a huge difference to other people who are failed by the system.
Once we have our investment secured here, we will be focusing a lot of energy on getting Let's Roll up and running again. It is really the heart and soul of Livewire.FM! Or I should say, it's the good people who support it who are our heart and soul!

******** UPDATE at 00:05 GMT today - TOTAL STANDS AT £13757*******
WE'VE RAISED OVER A QUARTER OF OUR TARGET AND IT'S ALL DOWN TO YOU
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
IA, I'm not sure what happened about the tormentor. I had something to post on the topic a few days ago when you asked, got distracted, and now I can't remember.
At any rate, things are moving along!
This tormentor person is a classic case of someone who just can't manage to state their opinion and let it go. They just have to have their way, won't stop at anything, won't let go, and won't consider either that they MIGHT be wrong, or the consequences if they are wrong.
It's classic internet terrorism, as we've discussed at length in the relevant thread.
Maybe this is another object lesson in the reasons we should all learn that it's not such a bad idea to put the breaks on our angers and outrages before we do irreparable harm to someone.
No one twisted the guys arm to donate. All he had to do was express his concerns, refuse to donate, and move on to something more constructive.
We don't know how all this will turn out, but it's just as possible that this idiot SOB could be the cause of a woman's unneccesary death as it is that he might save some people a few dollars. Those aren't odds I'd like to play, I don't know about anyone else.
Which is not to say that there's ANY likelihood that this is a scam, because it's been checked out up, down, and all around, and it's simply not a scam, it's a true life tragedy.
Thank you again to all who have donated, and let's not forget about this, please! A half hour of crossposting to other groups could make a huge difference!

Hi - I'm Dave Woodley, Su's fiance.
I happened across this thread while doing a routine Google of our website address and I wanted to pop in and say a few words of thanks.
When Su was first fully diagnosed back in February, our oncologist told us she would be lucky to reach July.
It is now September, Su's tumours are temporarily inactive, she has returned to work and (for a time) life has returned to normal. We don't know how long this will last; it could be months, it could be years.
BUT!
The kids and myself have been given a priceless present- the gift of time. I was expecting the situation to be quite different in September 2006, and yet as I type, Su is happily snoozing away upstairs with the reassuring knowledge that she will wake up tomorrow. This would not have happened if it were not for the love, generosity and trust shown to us by kind-hearted souls such as yourselves.
Thank you so much for helping us and bringing our situation to people's attention.
Love always,
Dave xxx

Dave,
I am just reading this for the first time, but I want to say that is awesome news. It also helps everyone else put their lives in perspective, and that is time is our most valuable resource.
I hope all continues to go well, it really is a blessing.
