Oprah annoys me but I continue to watch her show, I have no idea why :D
I think what irks me is the way she tries to act normal but she is so rich so how can we relate to her?

I more or less loathe Oprah and refuse to watch the show. It's difficult to stay completely away from her as she's always in the media.
I thought her whole reading series, and the selection of books, was such b.s. and in many ways was a dumbing down not only of the public but of literature in general. The selections sucked!

Hmm I just posted about this in your other thread!
I feel the same way.
Yes her books and magazines and everything else she has to make herself richer. does she give any money to charity??

I don't know if she personally gives to charity ...there have been charity things on her shows for which she gets a lot of press. But, since I am so suspicious of her, my instinct tells me the free press was worth the donation or effort.

Am I the only one who likes Oprah? I find some of her topics not to be interesting but I like most of her shows.
I also belong to a book club and often check out what selections she has chosen to give me some ideas for good reads. Not all of them are good but if you have not yet read Night by Elie Weisel.....get at it. Awesome read!

I very rarely get a chance to see Oprah, but when I do I find the show pretty interesting. I'm freaked out by some of the women who seem to think Oprah is God Incarnate for some reason, though.

I try not to expect much from celebrities like Oprah. I just focus on watching her show (which isn't all that much with a toddler around). Just as long as she doesn't start giving guns to the Middle East or anything...;)

She has done some good things. But she is a shameless self promotor, (nothing wrong with that, a lot of celebebrities are) and, like all talk show hosts, thrives on misery.
I haven't watched her show in years, too much emotional manipulation. And I really resent her half baked advice on parenting. When she used to compare parenting to taking "care" of her dogs, I stopped watching her show.
Oh, did I mention I HATE Dr. Phil?

I don't watch her show, but I have read some of the books on her reading list. I liked all the ones I read, and I think that by her establishing the list she was getting a lot of people to read who probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

ITA. This is huge. Oprah changed the publishing world.

I like Oprah. I watch here all the time. She has a great show and I just adore her. She inspires me also. Yes, she is rich but you can see her heart, it's with the poor and the needy. This woman has really created a respectable name in the entertainment industry.:) Go Oprah!:jump:

Oprah may be rich but rich does not mean you're not normal anymore. She is always in tune with the real world and not the world that is hers. I love watching her show because the topics are so well thought of and the public needs to know about.

I rarely watch Oprah anymore. I find all of the celebrities she has on the show kind of annoying. I'd much rather watch stories about everyday joe's/jane's.
