With the disaster unfolding in New Orleans and area. I am willing to volunteer to assist on the ground any way that I can for a considerable time. I have a very diverse work background that will definitely be an asset in any area I am placed.

At present I am employed as a licenced shipboard Marine Engineer on tankers / passenger ships and have worked as a Stationary / Building Operating Engineer. I have extensive experience with water purification, power generation, pumping and sewage / waste disposal systems. System / building repair and extensive supervisory experience.

My background as a honorable released Sergeant with 10 years experience in the Canadian Forces Reserve has given me a great sense of team work and the ability to be very flexible, while being positive in a trying situation.

All my vaccinations are current for travel to any part of the world. I am bondable and as a Canadian citizen I can enter American with out a visa and have a current Canadian passport.

I am trained to work with dangerous hazardous chemicals. Have a current Standard First Aid / Heart Saver certificate and Canadian Department of Transportation medical.

I am willing to pay all transportation costs to and from any of the meeting points a volunteer must congregate to be transported into the disaster area. I can be ready to travel on 24 hrs notice with the appropriate clothing / equipment to work in a trying dangerous location for a considerable time.

I am 45 years old (DOB:01/Sept/59) in good health and realize I am volunteering to assist in a dangerous situation.

If anybody knows of a group or government agency that requires my assistance would you please forward this e-mail and contact information below to the appropriate group ASAP.

Sincerely
Glen A. Braid

I can't stress enough that the currently available news is that people are not being allowed into the effected areas.

Unless someone has other information, the best way for volunteers who can travel to locations is to coordinate with the shelters that are listed in the database available above to get specific information on where to go, and what is needed.

The government and the major relief agencies are not working with individual volunteers on these kinds of offers yet, and they probably won't be for quite some time.

We need to coordinate these efforts on our own, that is what this site is here for.

If we form credible volunteer groups with clear and specific plans of actions, we will have much more of a possibility of interfacing with the officials who are "in charge" in all functional ways.

We need to move faster than they do, and we can if we get organized and stay focused.

Please post any projects that you are currently working on, be specific about your needs for volunteers and resources, and if you are a volunteer, plug yourself in to one of these projects.
