Just an idea for an ongoing act of support/relief. These victims will need our help and charities will need our donations for a good long while. Many of these victims will still need our help at Thanksgiving and thru the Holiday season. Like many of you, I have already sent my check and am doing what I can from home, but we need to understand it isn't a short term project

I have taken a container and am putting all my loose change in it. When i empty my pockets and change purse from work or do laundry and find some one has left money in their clothes or pull the couch away from the wall to vacumn and see a few nickels or dimes < you get the idea>.. this money is going into my " Katrina Jar". Every month I am going to roll my change and make a check out to my favorite charity and send it off as ongoing support.

For those of you living in a bottle return state, like me, you can add this money to your Jar or start a bottle drive in your town.

This is a wonderful idea! I'm sure there are a lot of things people can do to save a little here and a little there, then donate that money.

If you buy coffee at Starbucks every day, get it at 7-Eleven instead, say every other day if you just can't take every day. Send the $2+ saved to your favorite charity!

Contact local schools or churches, possibly get a local radio station involved---do a penny drive---who ever raises the most pennies gets a dinner cooked and served by the losing teams/organizations. This idea came from a drive done by Arkansas Children's Hospital my senior year of High School. The winning school got to deliver the money from all the schools and recieved a certificate and news coverage. Hey this isn't a Glory Train, but its an idea to raise money for victims, and it could easily be made an annual event, unfortunately, it may take many years to get victims back home.

Coinstar machines are being set up to accept donations for the Red Cross without taking out any fees. http://www.redcross.org/donate/coinstar.html
