Moderators: What's the likelihood of creating volunteer boards by state or by major city? Anyone know of any volunteer opportunities in Boston that aren't all screwed up by red tape organizations? Thanks

Hi Tom,

It's early days yet, even though it does seem like forever since the disaster hit.

We'll be hanging in here and getting information like this as organized and available as possible as information comes in, or we have time to go find it.

This is another volunteer project that would be a great one for someone who has time to spend on the internet to coordinate.

We're hoping to keep up momentum here, because this is really only the beginning, and the need is for volunteers who are in for the long haul.

We've gotten a lot done in a week, so we're hoping this coming week will be even more productive as emotions begin to settle, and there is less confusion.

Thanks for the suggestion, and for all you're doing.

Nico

Hi, I'm just brainstorming here but I am trying to start a donation drive of supplies near my home in Westchester County, New York. Should I start the donation drive and have the supplies go to the evacuees in Northeastern states or attempt to go all the way to the Gulf Coast? I'm having a hard time finding trucks/truck drivers and ways to pay for gas, otherwise I would love to send supplies everywhere, but New England evacuees would be much more feasible to reach... any ideas?
Also, with the supply drive I'm trying to start, any idea of how I should advertise/who to ask to supply a storage facility? For now I'm converting my garage and bottom floor of my house to hold everything...

Any ideas are welcomed, please email me at GauravRManchanda@gmail.com

Any Tulane Alums who read this, please contact me so we can try to organize a Tulane fund as well. Thanks!

ok--heres my idea---call all the local mini-storage rental places in your area, also contact the local wal-mart and food lion stores, contact the local dentists offices (toothpaste, tooth brushes) local hair salons(sample shampoos) local hotels(mini shampoo etc) and the local churches---they may also be able to help with collection and storage---also contact your local catholic diocese--louisianna is mostly catholic--help may be closer than you think--hope this helps
