I have been working on this for days.

Offering homes is not what is needed most now after talking to many folks, these (most anyway) just do nto want to leave their area for other states.

But we do need help......

Also see Volunteer section of this NOLA forums

I am leaving today.

Here is a bit of info

We are leaving WInston Salem NC for Gulfport MS

We need someone willing to donate (you can get back after we are done helping)

2 Chainsaws used or new I will pick them up before we leave or on our way down.

Please a least 16" blade or more w/ 42cc motor or more (this is going to be a big job)

These small towns are asking for people, no need to deal with the red tape of the red cross.

Here is the number to th Harrison County EOC they can confirm the need for those not sure. 228.832.6653 or 228.832.6653

Please call David 336.407.8552 if your willing to help out and donate the chainsaws or want to ride down TODAY in a convoy...

Good luck on your journey. I am going also. Starting on North Shore but want to check on Pearlington. Bring some cots, air mattress, bug nets that go over your cots. Bug tents that go over picnic table. Propane and camp stove. Where you going to sleep? I am sure a camper would make someone's live better. I wish I had a small one to bring. Might shoot some video for people to send to insurance company if it will help to get the money floowing. My friends have things that they are will to give away. That is where I am looking. Not sure where to buy those bug nets that go over your bed.

I wanted to make a couple of corrections to the above post and add some more specific information:

The number listed above 228.832.6653 is actually for the Harrison County Command Center, unfortunately they did not have the information needed for the volunteers. However, they referred me to the Harrison County EOC, and that number is 228-865-4207. I spoke with a gentleman there who was able to confirm the immediate need for volunteers and he gave me the following information:

All volunteers need to report to Harrison Central High School once you arrive.

It is located on Hwy 49.

When you arrive please be in touch with a man named Scott, he is the volunteer coordinator there. Scott?s phone number is 228-832-6653, which was given to me by the Harrison County EOC. He can assist the volunteers when they get there and provide needed information.

Thank you so much Tom for supplying this information and getting volunteers headed in their direction!!

Ok the bug nets you can find @ wal mart---in the domestics section---blankets etc---look for the nets to go over baby beds they will work for average size adult---the regular nets will most likely be gone---also get some regular skin so soft from avon---bathe in the stuff---mix it half in half with body wash---it repels bugs well---also-you need to make sure your shots are up to date-their are some serious nasty bugs goin on in the region---news from baton rouge----theres no more room---gulfport area---there are several places to camp-escatawba near pascagoula-they dont have much available-but they need help in debris removal and trees cut--just head straight north from pascagoula---just 3 miles from town
