Hi everyone,
As promised, here are some details of ways that you can get involved right away:
1) A semi-truck load of emergency relief supplies will be sent to areas where victims are being helped. Here are the details of how you can participate:
Compassion ministries is collecting supplies for the relief effort from Hurricane Katrina. Cases of baby formula, diapers and baby wipes can be dropped off at the church from 7 AM ? 7 PM on September 6-7. We are also collecting personal hygiene items, high quality used clothing and new underwear and socks. We may send other items in another shipment, but these will be the only items we will be accepting for now.
We are also looking for volunteers to help sort and pack the items. Those interested can call Kathleen Garden-LaLone at 248.656.6845.
2) The Carter and Williams families have provided the following list of clothing items that they are in need of. They left New Orleans thinking that they would be returning the next day. If you can help with these specific items and sizes please contact Lana Seidel at 248-760-1134 and let her know what items you plan to provide. This will help to insure that all items are covered.

Also, they are anticipating the arrival of Linda's younger sister, her husband and children later in the week. She is a nurse and he is a doctor. They stayed behind to help when the rest of the family evacuated. They ended up in the Superdome and were instrumental in protecting children from predators and gang members, as well as administering medical aid to people. We will let you know of additional clothing needs for them in a few days.
There currently isn't a need for toys, cribs, or clothes beyond those items listed above. As more families arrive in the coming days we will notify you of other specific needs and ways that you can help.
We have created a database including some of the specific ways you mentioned that you could help. We are processing all of this and simultaneously looking for avenues for that to take place.
Again, thank you so much for your part in all of this!
