Durham County has decided to focus relief efforts in Jackson County, Miss. This county was devastated?the eye of the hurricane passed over it?but it has received very little assistance and attention from disaster response agencies and organizations. So much attention has been focused on New Orleans, Biloxi and Gulfport that it?s been easy to forget the extent of the suffering in other parts of the Gulf Coast.
The first effort involves collecting specific items that residents can donate at the Durham County Stadium at 2700 Stadium Drive. This effort will run Thursday, Sept. 8, and Friday, Sept. 9, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
These are the items that will be accepted:
? Baby Food
? Diapers (Children and Adult)
? Paper Towel
? Toilet Paper
? Garbage bags (Heavy-Duty)
? Band-aids
? Rubbing Alcohol
? Peroxide
? Cotton Balls
? Towels
Durham County officials will arrange transportation of the items on Saturday morning to residents of Jackson County, Miss
