To all those who?s lives were directly effected by Hurricane Katrina,

I know things are rough right now as you are scattered throughout the United States with no comforts of home except for what you could carry in your arms and I can only imagine how frustrating this can be. I also know that some of you will soon return to what used to be your homes and find that this is when the real pain will begin as you see the loss of everything you own.

Please remember, material items can be replaced. However, as you?re sifting through the ruins of what used to be your most cherished possessions, and you find that some of your most precious memories, your photographs, may have been damaged or destroyed, do not be saddened. I am opening my doors to help the victims left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina the best way I know how. Although I have many talents in visual arts, I specialize in digital photo restoration and reproduction and I am donating my services to those who need it. If you would like me to attempt to restore your photos damaged by flood or fire, please visit www.skyward-bound.com for instructions.

Although nothing can bring back the lives lost in this horrific event, I will do my best to help give back some of what was lost.

Please note that if you have a photograph in a glass frame and has been damaged by water or fire, do not attempt to remove it from the frame as it may tear or separate.

Sincerely and God Bless,
Scott Carlson

That's a wonderful offer of service you have there Scott! I can see it might take a while, but this will certainly be needed. What neat thing to do. It's the one material thing I would miss most. Thank you!

Yes, this is one of the countless types of services that can be offered. It's not an immediate need, but it will be a very valuable and meaningful project as the displaced begin to have access to their belongings.

People who are looking for a project to coordinate could take on this, or any of the other generous and wonderful offers being made just by making it known that you are setting up a database for others who are making similar offers and then getting that information posted here and crossposted to the other active message boards.

Soliciting, collecting, publishing, and updating information like this is a meaningful use of time for those who want to contribute something. As the dust settles and the displaced begin to try to put their lives back together, these databases of information will be incredibly valuable.

Let's keep our eyes on the long term, and start thinking ahead as to what will come after, once someone's immediate needs are met!!

Now is the time to make a committment and get started!
