In this great time of need, it is a wonderful thing that we are all pulling our resources together (great and small!) to do what we can for those in need. But if you have mailed your checks or care packages to the shelters, and you still feel the need to do more, please consider lending a hand to your local animal shelter. Their needs are the same today as they were 2 weeks ago, maybe even moreso now that most people's donations are headed down south. Don't get me wrong - I believe the focus of our nation must remain on the recovery from Katrina. But if you think you'd like to be involved, there are many animal rescue organizations that would appreciate an extra hand. And in my state of Pennsylvania, there are no state, federal or local funds set aside for the SPCA and other organizations. Let's all stay as active as we are now, and keep every good effort going!!!
