Please be aware when making donations!
Keep your eyes open for any organizations that might not have the victims' interest at heart.
Note the article below, which names the National Heritage Foundation of Falls Church, VA:

Hi Mandy,
Thanks for posting that, you beat me to it.
What the article states is that the National Heritage Foundation is a scam. They solicit people to pay them a fee in exchange for which they set them up as a "charitable" foundation, and then send them literature about how to use donations as salaries and expenses for the foundation owner and their family.
At the time the article was written, the NHF had raised 128 million dollars and only 3 million of it was donated anywhere, and who knows where those 3 millions went. Possibly back to other NHF members, who knows?
The group that brought the NHF to our attention is the Muttshacks Foundation that is posting for donations for them to send animal crates to the disaster area. No details of any substance on the topic.
My suggestion, not only don't donate to groups like this, but let's find a way to make them wish they chose to get a real job flipping burgers at Mickey D's instead!!
This is truly disgusting!
Please crosspost this information everywhere you can think of and get some of those good email spams going! If people can keep urban legends going for years that way, we can certainly get the word out about these kinds of scam "charities".
