I can't believe this... with all the things going on... this is just not right.

So I completely understand the size of the tradegy, the relocation headaches, the awefullness of having to start over... and so I do everything I can to help, like the rest of the country is doing.

So I have a donation/fundraiser and LOTS of great clothes are donated - which I had planned to wash and present in a respectable manner, not just drop off in a ratty cardbaord box. So I call the hotel where 200+ evacs are staying and the lady tells me, after listing off their short list of items needed, that, by the way, all of the items MUST BE NEW.

I have a VERY hard time with this since the majority of my clothes are not new when I get them, 99% of my kids clothes are not new when they get them, but they are still very nice clothes - it IS possible.

Well, sorry for the rant on this.. but I guess if living through a catastrophic event allows you to pick and choose, so be it, but that will mean I can help THAT much less as no one around here has extra moolah sitting around to donate - we've all been sucked away at for the past week.

Anyone here feeling frustrated with their efforts?

I wish there was a way to trade in 50 used pieces of clothing for one new piece just so I could give something.

thanks
jocinda

Jocinda,

I can't believe such a thing is going on...

Bless you and yours for all of your outstanding efforts. Although I am unfamiliar with your area, my suggestion to you would be to contact either your local Council of Churches or Catholic Association. (IF YOU NEED ME TO GET THE PHONE NUMBERS AND CALL THEM FOR YOU, LET ME KNOW). In my area we also have what is called a Victory Mission. The Victory Mission is church sponsored, therefore, I believe by contacting the above Religious Organizations (and any others in your area) I feel certain they would be delighted to receive your hard earned donations.

Other than that, possibly we could devise a way to ship them to the current area that has the greatest need AT THIS TIME. Write me and tell me what you think.

Let me know! If you have questions or need me to help from my end, let me know!

With kind regards,

Karen
