I've been told by many people that the best place to start for volunteering is to contact your American Red Cross. I've found many of these numbers to be busy - but they would be happy to have you go down and fill out a volunteer application - which is just a formality. Check their website for a local branch in your area. Also - in my area, the Volunteer Center of North Texas is oranizing help. You might try a branch of the Volunteer Center. Good luck!

Register with them online and let them know what resources you have available or what you wish to contribute to the efforts and they will get in touch with you. It helps for them to organize if they know what resources they have available to them.
