ANIMALS STILL TRAPPED AND DYING

IN NEW ORLEANS!

Oct. 11, 2005: Starving with no food or clean water, walking through their own feces, and becoming weaker by the day, once loved, now abandoned, pets who survived the perils of Hurricane Katrina are still locked in their homes in New Orleans with very little hope for being rescued. Some are very sick and they are dying by the minute, by the hour, and by the day! The media apparently seems to have forgotten them and their time is running out! It is certain that if the grass roots volunteers and agencies who are crippled by lack of volunteers, supplies and a continuing general interest do not get help fast the animals that, through a miracle, managed to survive, will die a slow agonizing death from starvation and/or disease. These animals need help and they need it now! Their owners are helpless themselves and cannot help them!

Some dogs are so weak that they cannot even bark to let anyone know they are trapped in the houses while others are roaming the streets in packs trying to survive. The holding areas where the volunteers take the animals are filling up and there is mention of euthanizing some animals if they are not transported to other areas soon. Volunteers are having to knock down the doors to search for the animals left behind but resources and man power are limited. The primitive conditions that the volunteers are having to live in and the lack of good meals, supplies and general support are thwarting these animals chances of survival!

Don't forsake them now, their lives depend on you!

We know that the general public is not aware that these beloved animals are still trapped or abandoned & sick and doomed to die an agonizing painful death! They cannot speak or cry for help so for the time being we are compelled to be their voice, and in their behalf, we are appealing to you. Americans with a compassionate heart and with a passion to help the helpless, trapped, and dying animals that cannot help themselves, please answer their call, it is important to step forward and be counted now.

Very little can make a big difference!

Here is what you can do...

First bookmark this site (http://livewire.fm/) and listen to the interviews by clicking on the ON AIR button. Then peruse the site to help yourself become aware of the problems at hand(we update daily).

2) Decide what you might be able to do to help. No gift, whether it be time or money or a simple e-mail of heartfelt support is too small. Here are a few ideas.....

a) Help us get the word out! Tell your friends. Donate your time as a volunteer with rescue groups. We need volunteers. If you would like to help us organize e-mail us.

b) Donate money directly to individual volunteers, or agencies. The grass roots volunteers who had trouble getting through the bureaucratic red tape took it upon themselves just to pack up and go and are doing much good, but they are tired and running out of money, supplies and gas. Many are camped out at the Winn Dixie parking lot(donated for use by Winn Dixie). They need financial assistance(gift cards) and moral support. If you do not need a tax deduction this would be a good way to help these self sacrificing individuals and also could extend the time that they are able to stay and help. Listen to Sammy Allen's compelling story by pressing the ON AIR button. Sammy Allen is a self motivated grassroots volunteer that has been instrumental in recovering lost, sick and abandoned animals and with a passion to unite them with their owners. Let's assist him and help him stay and extend his time (http://livewire.fm/forums/showthread.php?t=637) to stay and rescue. He is doing a fantastic job!

c) Don't forget the animals in Mississippi! (http:////www.petfinder.com/disaster/)

d) If you know anyone in the media that might take this story and run with it, notify them. Time is of the essence and the faster the volunteers get assistance the more animal's lives will be save!

e) If you have the time and stamina and intend to go on your own (http://www.petrescuevolunteers.com/) , please stay in touch with us so we will help you in whatever way possible.

f) Please do not forget! Go to these links for a reminder and an an amazing auto scrolling panoramic view (http://www.katrinadestruction.com/images/v/katrina+panoramic+views/14kd947pano2.jpg.html)of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina . Remember pets were and still are still trapped in houses! (http://www.katrinadestruction.com/images/v/hurricane/hurricane+katrina+flooding.html)

Here is a link to a group of rescue workers who have done a wonderful job. BEWARE some of the pictures in the picture albums (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cometsmommy/my_photos) on this site that are titled "Horror". They are not for the faint hearted! Do not allow children to see them without previewing them first. .

Hi!
Thanks Meow for that great post above full of information. I didn't get a chance until now to look it over well to see if I can add any new deatils or clarity.

I did consult the IRS Charitable Donation department and we discussed some ways that donations can be given to "unqualified charitable organizations" and use it as a tax deduction.

I'll write more soon about that and others.

Sparkie,

Thanks for the info. I am sure that it will be useful to many.
Look forward to finding out how that will work(tax deduction).
