Self sufficiency guide from Heather Boyson, animal rescue volunteer:
Supplies for you/Search/Rescue/Kennels:
Lots of socks and underwear
Baby powder (for feet and butt)
Shorts, jeans and tanks/t-shirts
GOOD shoes ? tennis/boots- reduces blisters/sore feet
Tent/RV/popup camper (test the tent at home prior to ensure you have all the right equipment and know how)
Air mattress is a PLUS
Towels- take all you can for the animals as well!
Flip flops for shower time
Whatever toiletries- there are 3 port a potties (take extra toilet ppr in case)
Gallon jugs of water (if driving)
Thick gloves
Leashes for dogs
Ice chest full of drinks w/electrolytes (i.e. gator aid, power aid,?.)
Crow bar and sledge hammer (entering homes)
Spray bottles (for cleaning kennels)
Whatever food you like to eat (some hot meals are being delivered, but not every night)
Trash bags (thick ones)
Zip lock sandwich bags (for incoming animals pprwk)
Dr. Bonners Peppermint soap (find it at a health food store) this is
Heather?s famous foot soak solution. (ice water and peppermint soap- soak feet at end of day! Every night!)
Take crates if you have them.
Load up on ice and gas- try to take a spare gas can/full
Sunscreen and a hat
Take a mask- the houses are REALLY moldy
Latex gloves- medium/large
Bottle of hand sanitizer
Flash light and batteries
Cell phone with lots of minutes
Okay, now that you have all that packed and ready to go, be sure you write
"Animal Search and Rescue" on your windows. Have a photo ID, Health Insurance card and list of emergency contacts with you.
If you can score a "catch pole" prior, good!
Load up on carbohydrates and salt, get good and hydrated.
Pack some vitamins and potassium pills.
