Why is anyone taking advice from a middle aged spinster woman with no children?

Maybe because, they feel her authority in the house. It doesn't mean that if one doesn't have a family or kids, she didn't know anything about taking care of one. Maybe she did some job before that is the same with that and she had learned them in a different way that other people find interesting that's why they believed what she said. I don't know. Just maybe.

I must say, however, that a lot of her advice is sound. Plus I don't know that she is necessarily middle-aged...I think she is in her late twenties, isn't she?

You don't have to have children of your own to be effective at teaching people new ways to handle a situation. Sometimes it takes someone from the outside looking in to assess and help come to a workable conclusion. Obvsiouly the families that are on the show are not being successful in their management/parenting and need a way to come together as a family and establish a solution.
It's the same kind of thing as if a marriage counselor isn't married. It doesn't mean they can't do their job well just because they don't have a spouse.

They say that "experience is the best teacher". The nanny I believe have vast experience in the field of babysitting that's why she is an authority in kids. You don't have to have kids to understand kids.
I've already watched a few episodes of that program and I liked it. I think that all the strategies that they use for each family problem is good. I too learn a lot from them. I will be applying the concepts I learn from that show with my own child.

Experience is definitely the best teacher. I don't have kids of my own but I have taught in daycares with ages 0-6 for almost ten years so I know a little about them.

I would say that your experience has a lot of merit, LeighA. Maybe you should have YOUR own show! :)

All those people she is helping out have children and they are obviously NOT better at it than she is. Sometimes you need a non-involved third party to create order in an emotional situation.
Some of those parents though... Woo... I can't imagine

Yeah, good point. I don't think those families are average families who might already know better. They're all pretty out there.
