I just discovered this great website for US---Volunteers Coming Home, Yahoo Group
Link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VolunteersComingHome/
I just posted this there:
I have found my people!!!
I do not cry normally but I have tears in
my eyes as I write now. I have only read about 10 posts and already
feel this way.
I did not know I had such a need to find you people until I read some
of the posts.
Many things I want to say to you but one of them is:
To those of you who wonder what/how to help from home and for
free!!....Do I have some ideas for you!
Grassroots people & groups rule!!! No "Red tape people" here!!
I need help. I have typed some much since I returned from the gulf
12 month ago (oops! I mean 1 month ago---feels like 12 tho), that I believe I have carpal tunnel for the first time.
(frequent pain in right wrist, forearm & sometimes shoulder).
Gulf Coast Relief: I am 1 of a 4 member volunteer team, Let's Roll
project, that are effective, lively, funny and, did I say,
EFFECTIVE? I trust these people.
Who We Are, link: http://livewire.fm/forums/showthread.php?t=771
We have been working, as volunteers, 10+ hours a day, 7 day weeks.
We need help to give help.
Sample of "Job" Opportunities-----
Who would be interested in being a moderator at a website doing much
volunteer work for the disasters? I am a mod but have no
experience. I believe it is an easy skill to learn.
Who could merely spread the word about efforts via emails? Just
forwarding an informative email to all in your address book can be a
big help. Quick & Free!
Who would be willing to crosspost to their favorite website(s)? Just
spreading the word w/ accurate info and current needs helps alot.
Accurate info is CRITICAL to giving relief.
You know the situation in the gulf can change rapidly, even minute by minute.
Or, simply visiting other great websites like this one. Maybe making
an occassional post. All of these small & no cost tasks help alot.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and any assistance you can
give.
Also, sharing your contacts to effective people & individuals is
helpful.
Sincerely,
Pam, fellow on-the-ground gulf volunteer
