I haven't heard from Camille Paglia for years, but I saw her quoted today, and wanted to share her comments about Sarah Palin.

"Per Camille Paglia:

"Conservative though she may be, I felt that Palin represented an explosion of a brand new style of muscular American feminism. At her startling debut on that day, she was combining male and female qualities in ways that I have never seen before. And she was somehow able to seem simultaneously reassuringly traditional and gung-ho futurist. In terms of redefining the persona for female authority and leadership, Palin has made the biggest step forward in feminism since Madonna channeled the dominatrix persona of high-glam Marlene Dietrich and rammed pro-sex, pro-beauty feminism down the throats of the prissy, victim-mongering, philistine feminist establishment. " [..]

"Over the Labor Day weekend, with most of the big enchiladas of the major media on vacation, the vacuum was filled with a hallucinatory hurricane in the leftist blogosphere, which unleashed a grotesquely lurid series of allegations, fantasies, half-truths and outright lies about Palin. What a tacky low in American politics -- which has already caused a backlash that could damage Obama's campaign. When liberals come off as childish, raving loonies, the right wing gains. I am still waiting for substantive evidence that Sarah Palin is a dangerous extremist. I am perfectly willing to be convinced, but right now, she seems to be merely an optimistic pragmatist like Ronald Reagan, someone who pays lip service to religious piety without being in the least wedded to it. I don't see her arrival as portending the end of civil liberties or life as we know it."

For those who are not familiar with this fascinating woman:

Is it just me, or am I the only one who knows the "pig in lipstick" comment to be a sophomoric insult against women?

I first heard it used in high school to insult someone's date. I don't believe I've ever heard it again in any other context than as a not so subtle way to characterize a woman as a pig. Very few men wear lipstick, and so far none are wearing it out on the campaign trail.

When I heard the soundbite last night, I just about fell off my chair, no spin from anyone required. I got it, and I got it loud and clear.

I can give Obama the benefit of the doubt, that despite the cutesy "bad boy" covering of his brow as he spoke the words, he didn't actually know what his words implied, but then I'll have to severely question this man's diplomatic capabilities, not to mention his courtliness, intelligence and common sense.

Sorry Barry, but your excuses on this one don't fly.:turniptru

Wrapping old fish in paper is not a comparable metaphor, and no one had to spin anything to get a reaction from that comment. At best, it was unfathomably stupid of you, at worst, it shows your true nature.

It's my suspicion that now that you're suddenly not the undisputed darling of the afternoon TV crowd and the mainstream media, you just can't handle it.

I think you're a spoiled and entitled puppet of a man, and we're just now seeing the beginning of one long and embarrasing hissy fit, as your free ride on Oprah's Guaranteed Ride to Fame train stalls out in a tunnel.

If Sarah Palin has managed to expose you for who you are, just by being who she is, she's more than a great candidate, she's an idol.

Beyond the Palin

For years now, in response to the question, "what are you looking for in a candidate" after my often verbose criticisms of political candidates from all sides of the aisle, my response has been that surely somewhere in America there must be a true grassroots candidate, someone who is in the political arena not due to having been born, groomed or nurtured into it by some special interest group or another, but a citizen who has risen to political office the way our wise and illustrious Founders envisioned, as a result of being an involved, informed, and active citizen.

No one can reasonably question the fact that in Sarah Palin we have finally found such a candidate. To me, she feels like a frosty cold glass of hand squeezed lemonade on a blistering summer day, after a long, dry and hot season of suffering along with nothing else to quench our thirst but artificially flavored Kool-Aid.

Without question, I have a big crush on Sarah Palin. But, as with all love at first sight, let prudence lead the way.

In the short time that's elapsed since we've all been introduced to Sarah, we who follow the news have been sucked into a vortex of reportage about her that truly rivals the media histrionics that commonly surround high profile entertainment figures like Paris Hilton, or controversy laden social icons, like Princess Di. Not even the latest shooting star in the sky, Barack Obama, has experienced this kind of instant stardom, so this is a phenomena to be acknowledged and honored, regardless of our political allegiences.

Over the past week or so, my e-mail account has been barraged with Sarah Palin slams. Everything from critiques of her hair-do to alleged MySpace comments by her daughter's boyfriend. Can I just tell you, I'm not interested? No, that simple response doesn't seem to suffice.

The activists I met told me,"absolutely not, for any reason". The reason this comes to my mind is because on the first day I worked at Animal Acres, there was a garbage can full of wool that had been sheared off of the sheep. I asked Lori about it and she said it was destined for the dump or the pasture.

Your kidding right... Animal acres is a non-profit orginization and is always complaining about money... These sheep have been cared for in a perfectly organic and stress free manner... All of their needs are taken care of... Lori is there to wipe their noses when they get the sniffles or their butts when they get the runs... What more could a "rescued" farm animal want?

I believe they should use that wool and sell products made with it. Use the selling point that it is from animals that are living in perfect conditions and was sheared by a genuine Animal Activist.

Throwing it out seems like a waste. I mentioned this to Lori and was completely dismissed. Does this make sense to anybody else. I'd love to hear your comments.

Hello,

My name is George Snedeker, the same George that appeared on the animal rights episode of "30 days". It is a very fun and thought provoking show. During my adventure I was able to experience enough to choke even the most hardened activist. To bad the program was only 1 hour long. Could have and probably should have been a whole season.

There were a lot of topics that didn't make the final cut. That was too bad. Some of it was offensive, some of it was heart warming, but all of it made you think or re-think where you stand.
Some people will want to know what happened when I went hunting once I got home from LA....Sadly I didn't have any success. I got a late start, so no venison for me....This Year....I'm hoping for better luck next time.

I have read on other blogs that a lot of folks have questions about the show and why I didn't say this or that. I am looking forward to hearing your comments and answering any question you have. I will be posting on Livewire.FM often and I'm working on an online radio program with Livewire also.

During the show I met a lot of activsts. Some of them were closed minded, angry people that had nothing to say that didn't come from there militant activist handbook. The others just lived their lives in a particular non-judgemental way. Recognizing that not everyone in the world is like them. Needless to say that the later were the most open minded....Which catagory do you fall into? I would like to know, and hear your thoughts and commments about the 30 days episode, and the animal rights movement in general. That's for starters, anyway!
